Chrome Plating
Our process is second to none. We take the time, effort, and precision to make sure your chrome plating product comes out exactly how you want it with the quality that it deserves. Take a sneak peak at our plating process.
Receiving
When a job comes in it is first thoroughly inspected for condition and we look for any other damage and assess the parts. We also are questioning the customer to learn what their intentions with their particular project are going to be, such as, if its only a parade car or a high point concours restoration. This way we can let the customer know ahead of time if the parts can be restored to their expectations. Some parts are deteriorated to the point where they may not come back to a “perfect” condition. We strive to make every part as good as it can possibly get with its given condition.
Photography of Parts
We then take digital pictures of every job to document the parts sent in as well as the condition of the parts. This also is very helpful in identifying an individual’s parts.
Naming
Parts are then engraved on the back of each part with the customers last name. This way we can, again, identify parts to the jobs.
Stripping
Parts are then stripped of any old plating, paint and grime. They are then media blasted to get all of the corrosion off of the part and out of the pits.
Sanding
We then start the metal finishing process with sanding the metal smooth and cutting in any detail lines and finish sanding the parts down to a very fine scratch.
Electrolysis Cleaning & Copper Plating
Parts are then racked up on plating racks so they can begin the electrolysis process. The parts are put through many cleaning tanks and then get plated with a layer of copper plating. This copper layer will fill in any fine pits and scratches.
Polishing
Once the parts are copper plated they can then be sanded and polished to a very high shine. Copper can be polished to a higher shine than trying to polish steel, as copper is a much softer metal. It makes for a much deeper shine and makes the parts more durable.
Chrome Plating
After the polishing process the parts are precleaned, reracked on plating racks, and are sent through the cleaning tanks to get plated with nickel. Once the parts have enough nickel plating on them they come out of that tank and into the final plating tank, the chrome tank. The chrome layer is a high luster metal deposit that provides the protective layer we all love.
Waxing
Parts are then de-racked and they are inspected for any flaws that will be unacceptable to the customer. The parts then get hand waxed, wrapped in protective paper, and tagged with the customer’s name.
Invoice, Package & Ship
Once the job is entirely done, we check the parts off of the invoice. The parts are then packaged and shipped to the customer.
